Susan Sarandon occupy wall street, Susan Sarandon Attends 'Occupy Wall Street' Protests. Susan Sarandon has lent her celebrity power to the protesters on Wall Street, and has promised to continue demonstrating in weeks to come. The Oscar-winning actress explained in an interview that she was there “to understand what’s going on and to lend my support.”Sarandon toured the area of Zuccotti Park where about 100 people are camping out, complete with mattresses and sleeping bags.
“There’s a lot of different kinds of people here who want to shift the paradigm to something that’s addressing a huge gap between the rich and the poor,” Sarandon said.
Sarandon received the Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award in 2006 and is very active with UNICEF, Heifer International, and various humans rights causes.
The group, called Occupy Wall Street, plans to march through the area each business day to mark the closing and opening bells of the New York Stock Exchange.
The protesters have a long list of concerns ranging from corporate greed and political corruption to the environment, and have expressed frustration with corporate America.
Occupy Wall Street has stationed themselves financial district in an attempt to get President Obama’s attention and “the influence money has over our representatives in Washington.”
Michael Moore also attended the demonstration last week. The filmmaker is well known for being politically active.
Partisans of the Occupy Wall Street actions were arrested this weekend, and the New York Post reported that the demonstration was a “near riot.”
Some of those sitting in the streets have told The Christian Post they promised to remain, saying they will “no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the one percent.”
