It was her big directorial debut, and there is no doubt Angelina Jolie looked absolutely stunning in her floor length designer blue gown.

But as the evening came to a close the 36-year-old was finding it difficult to emulate the sophisticated goddess we all know and love.

Instead it seemed the one shouldered navy blue Romona Keveza dress, coupled with Jimmy Choo shoes, got in the way when it came to actual walking.

Luckily the mother-of-six had her leading man Brad Pitt to help her tackle the wayward gown through the crowd at yesterday's Los Angeles premiere of In the Land of Blood and Honey, Angelina's directorial début.

Although her Jimmy Choo shoes managed to rip through the delicate material of the dress, nothing could ruin Angelina's good mood at Hollywood's Arclight Theatre.

Brad, 47, managed to perfectly match his girlfriend's outfit in a dark blue three-piece Tom Ford suit.

And her husband wasn't the only leading man in Angelina's red carpet there to support her.

Aneglina's father Jon Voight , who is most famous for his Oscar-winning role in 1969 movie Midnight Cowboy, was welcomed by his daughter on the red carpet.

The 72-year-old actor who recently appeared in TV series 24, looked equally happy to see his daughter by his former wife, the late model and actress Marcheline Bertrand.

Angelina fell out with her father after he gave an interview on U.S. television back in 2002, in which he claimed his daughter, who had just adopted her Cambodian-born son Maddox, had 'serious mental problems'.

'I'm broken-hearted... because I've been trying to reach my daughter and get her help, and I have failed and I'm sorry,' he said.

Angelina responded by cutting off her father completely, saying that, as a new mother, she did not think it was healthy to associate with him.

In an interview a year later, she said Voight's comments were damaging because they could have affected her relationship with Maddox.

'They could have decided he's right, she's crazy, let's remove that child from her custody, and that's unforgivable.

'My father and I don't speak. I don't believe that somebody's family becomes their blood. Because my son's adopted, and families are earned.'

Voight repeatedly tried to regain contact with his daughter, particularly after her mother's death in 2007.

And finally, with Brad's blessing, she is said to have responded in late 2009.

It was a proper family affair last night with Angelina's older brother James Haven also in attendance with his girlfriend Ashley Reign.

They were also joined by Angelina's friend Gwen Stefani who arrived in an unusual patterned all white jumpsuit and black strappy sandals.

In The Land of Blood and Honey revolves around a Muslim woman named Aija (Marjanovic)who falls in love with Serbian Daniijel (Kostic).
