Police were called to a New Year's Day disturbance at Lindsay Lohan's Los Angeles home last night - but for once it wasn't the actress causing the drama.

Ms Lohan, 25, called officers after a man allegedly approached her front door trying to make contact with the star.

When the man allegedly refused to leave, Lindsay called police who arrived on the scene and arrested him.

The white man aged approximately 40-50 years-old wearing a baseball cap was pictured being escorted from the property by LAPD officers.

'Officers were sent out on a service call to the home,' said Lieutenant Munoz of the LAPD Pacific Station.

'A man at the residence was allegedly asking for Lindsay to come out and he wouldn't leave.

'Ms Lohan called police who arrived and detained the man for trespass after Ms Lohan asked for him to be arrested.'

The name of the man arrested was not immediately available as he was still being processed, police said.

A Los Angeles judge recently praised Lohan, who is currently on probation for her a DUI and necklace-theft cases, for keeping to her community service commitments and receiving a glowing probation report.

'She's been very low-key and she seems to enjoy the program here.'

Lohan must complete a total of 53 days at the morgue and 18 therapy sessions by March or otherwise face a possible 270-day jail sentence for violating probation in her DUI and necklace-theft cases.
