Anderson Cooper To Marry Boyfriend

Anderson Cooper To Marry Boyfriend - Not long after he officially came out of the closet, CNN host Anderson Cooper might be ready to walk down the aisle. According to reports, the 45-year-old newsman is toying with the idea of marrying boyfriend Ben Maisani, whom he has been with since 2009. "He'd been considering breaking the news [about being gay] since same-sex marriage became legal in the state of New York last summer," a source says. "It's been about a year now and he wants to get married to Ben. They're totally committed to one another." Though the two have definitely been together for three years, other gay stars have been with their significant others for much longer. Here is a look at some gay celebrities that have been involved in serious relationships for a long time.

Elton John

One of the greatest musicians of all time, Elton John revealed his bisexuality in 1976 and later admitted that he was more comfortable as a gay man. In 1993, he struck up a relationship with David Furnish and the two have been together ever since. In 2005, the two officially entered into a civil union in the United Kingdom. In 2010, the couple welcomed a son through a surrogate mother.

Ellen DeGeneres

In 1997, the actress announced that she was out of the closet and began dating Anne Heche shortly after that. She remained with Heche for several years before the two split in 2000. In 2004, Ellen began dating "Arrested Development" star Portia de Rossi and the two have been together ever since. In 2008, they were married during the short time when it was legalized. "She's taught me lessons about myself, and I feel like I've taught her," Ellen said of Portia. "We've both changed and grown, and we just feel like, 'Oh, okay, this is completion.'"

Neil Patrick Harris

The "How I Met Your Mother" star proudly came out of the closet in 2006. However, he has been with longtime companion David Burtka since 2004. The last two years have been incredibly busy for the happy couple. Not only did they welcome twins through a surrogate mother, but they also announced their plans to tie the knot. Last summer, NPH revealed that the two had actually been engaged for years. "David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date," he said.
