Vick Has Blown $30 Million

Vick Has Blown $30 Million - Like many of his peers, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick tuned in for the latest installment in ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary series on Tuesday night. Directed by Billy Corben, "Broke" chronicles the financial hardships and mistakes of professional athletes.

Even after signing a six-year contract with the Eagles in 2011 that included $40 million in guarantees Vick's financial situation may not be as rosy as one would expect. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Vick has spent approximately $29 million of the $31 million he has made since filing for bankruptcy in 2008.

Although TMZ describes Vick as having "blown through" millions of dollars, the site also breaks down where all of the money went.

As Bomani Jones noted on Twitter as reports of Vick's spending began proliferating, the Eagles quarterback didn't exactly wantonly "spend" nearly $30 million. Per TMZ, much of the money went to pay taxes, debts, child support and the sorts of expenses that he's saddled with after his various legal and personal troubles through the years.

With his Eagles contract running for several more years and having signed a new he endorsement deal with NIKE, Vick should have the income to keep himself solvent despite the onerous expenses. Of course, he'll need to take his own advice.
