Marcus Williams Banned In China, A Marcus Williams has been banned by the Chinese Basketball Association after testing positive for weed, according to a report. It appears to be the Arizona Marcus Williams, not the UConn Marcus Williams. So the Chinese Basketball Association takes marijuana use pretty seriously. Marcus Williams, the former Spur and Clipper from the University of Arizona (as opposed to Marcus Williams, the former Net and Warriors from the University of Connecticut), has been banned from Chinese play for six months due to a positive pot test, according to World News Australia (via HoopsHype).
In the NBA, players don’t get suspended for weed until their third positive test. Then, it’s only five games. Six months is the equivalent of about 90 NBA games.
World News Australia cites Xinhua’s claim that this is the first drug suspension in the CBA’s 17-year history. Williams played for the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons, and has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to the suspension.
