7.85-inch iPad And Fall Release

7.85-inch iPad And Fall Release - On the heels of Google's $199 Nexus 7, Pacific Crest analyst Andy Hargreaves is predicting that Apple will introduce a 7.85-inch iPad in October:

"We anticipate an entry-level 7.85" iPad with 8GB of NAND capacity to price at $299 with an initial gross margin of 31%. We estimate Apple will sell 10.0 million 7.85" iPads in FQ1 (Dec. 2012) and 35.2 million in all of F2013. Based on estimated component order volume, we believe our iPad mini unit estimates are well within Apple's production capacity. We anticipate 25% cannibalization of the larger 9.7" iPad (for every four 7.85" iPads added, we reduced our 9.7" iPad estimate by one), so our total F2013 iPad estimate increases to 91.6 million from 65.2 million," he wrote in a report published Thursday.

Explosion at iPad plant in China

Explosion at iPad plant in China. Apple investigates explosion at iPad factory in China. Apple could face pressure to review its position in China after two people died in an explosion at the Chinese factory which produces the iPad 2. The explosion rocked Foxconn's Chengdu manufacturing facility late yesterday. Local reports said it happened in the building where Foxconn keeps the iPad 2 production line.

Foxconn, best known as a supplier of Apple’s iPhone and iPad, has already come under pressure in the past 18 months, after more than 13 factory workers committed suicide. Critics say the company’s employees are subjected to harsh working conditions, long hours and low pay.

New iPhone 4S Coming

New iPhone 4S Coming
Maybe the hotly anticipated iPhone 5 won't be an iPhone 5 at all.
But it might be available on more carriers.
The emerging theory, based on reports from industry analysts, is that the next model of Apple's smartphone will be called the iPhone 4S and be an update of the current model, not a radical advance.

Multiple sites this weekend were citing a report by Peter Misek, an analyst with Jefferies & Co.
"According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support," Misek wrote in a report Friday.
Other analysts have offered similar predictions.

Sony unveils its twin-screen tablet

Sony unveils its twin-screen tablet
A split from the norm: Sony unveils its twin-screen tablet that opens like a book - but will it take a bite out of Apple?
* Sony will also produce a conventional tablet as it aims to break the market
* S1 and S2 will use Google's Android 3.0 operating system
* Tablets will both be wi-fi and 3G/4G compatible
* Prices and release dates not revealed

Being able to carry your entire book collection has become a feature of tablet computers. But Sony has gone one further by making a device that folds open like one too.

Sony announced it is entering the tablet market dominated by Apple's iPad with not one, but two devices.

The tablets - called S1 and S2 - will use an operating system based on Google's Android 3.0.

And in what Sony hopes will provide a key selling point, the latter has two 5.5-inch displays that can be folded like a book. The S1 has a 9.4inch display.

iPhone and iPad can track a user's location history

iPhone and iPad can track a user's location history

Security researchers find a hidden data file in the Apple devices that can contain detailed records of user whereabouts.
Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad are keeping very close track of where you've been.

Security researchers said they found a file hidden in the operating software of Apple's devices that can contain tens of thousands of records of a user's precise geographical location, each marked with a timestamp.

Those records create a highly detailed history of a user's whereabouts over months or even years.

The data are in an unprotected file embedded in the phone and tablet computer, the researchers said Wednesday, allowing hackers who pick up a lost iPhone or iPad access to the location history with relative ease.

The discovery comes as technology companies are coming under increasing scrutiny for the ways in which they collect, store and share personal information gleaned from consumers' use of digital devices.

Apple, Google Inc. and Facebook Inc., three of the most popular consumer technology companies, have attracted intense scrutiny from regulators and privacy advocates.

The Evolution of Touchscreen Gaming

The Evolution of Touchscreen Gaming

Touchscreen gaming has never been bigger. The next 12 months could quite possibly see an unprecedented trio of new touch-sensitive portables hitting stores: the Nintendo 3DS, the Sony NGP, and (fingers crossed) a new iPad will all be vying to get their hands on your gaming fingers in the months to come. But while most gamers’ first exposure to playing games with their fingertips is likely to have been around 2004 with the all-conquering Nintendo DS, it was by no means the first touchscreen-equipped gaming device to hit the market.

10 HUGE Questions About The iPad 2

Will the iPad 2 be generally the same size and design as the original iPad?

This seems likely. The iPad's 10-inch screen is a good middle ground between a smartphone and a laptop.
But we assume the iPad 2 will be thinner. And the case itself may be made out of different materials.
