A couple of dozen of Japanese Buddhist priests mummify themselves to gain the self-denial award. It takes the monk years to mummify with initial diet and then exercise regimen to burn away all fat. They empty the body of bodily fluids, crawl into a box and stay there in the lotus position until death.
