One of my favourite movies this year was 50/50. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Anjelica Houston and Bryce Dallas Howard, 50/50, which was apparently inspired by a true story was a heartfelt cancer comedy. Cancer comedy being two words you don’t usually hear in one sentence together… at least with good connotations. But a fantastic mix of drama and comedy 50/50 is… all I can say is that it just works.
Summit Entertainment will be distributing the film and while they haven’t released any official information, it looks like they’re planning for 50/50 to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray on January 24.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film: ”Inspired by personal experiences, 50/50 is an original story about friendship, love, survival and finding humor in unlikely places. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star as best friends whose lives are changed by a cancer diagnosis. 50/50 is the story of a guy’s transformative and, yes, sometimes funny journey to health. 50/50 draws its emotional core from writer Will Reiser’s own experience with cancer and reminds us that friendship and love, no matter what bizarre turns they take, are the greatest healers.”
If you haven’t had a chance to check out 50/50 yet, let me be one of the many people to tell you to go check it out. While I do like Seth Rogen most of the time, his performance in this movie was sort of meh for me and the real folks that stand out in the film are Joseph Gordon-Levitt (obviously) and the wonderful Anna Kendrick.
We know what the cover art will look like, but have yet to find out what special features will be included with the DVD and Blu-ray. An official press release will likely be sent out in the near future that will let us know more details.
