Lynn Swann + Pittsburgh Arena Sports Team,Arena Football Team To 'Power' Pittsburgh
Former Steelers WR Lynn Swann Part Of Ownership Group. An ownership group including Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer Lynn Swann is bringing an Arena Football League team to town.

"It's exciting to help build a team from the ground up and have a position where you can actually influence the outcome. I'm looking forward to that," said Swann.

The Pittsburgh Power will begin play next season, in April, at the Consol Energy Center. The new arena opened Wednesday with a Paul McCartney concert and was built primarily for the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.

Swann, who already earned four Super Bowl rings as a member of the Steelers in the '70s, said being a part of the Power was a chance to collect even more jewelry.

"The Steelers aren't going to give me another Super Bowl ring. The only way I'm going to get another championship ring is with the Arena Bowl coming to Pittsburgh or our team playing for a championship and that's what it's about," said Swann.

Matt Shaner will be the team's principal owner. He's chief executive officer of Shaner Investments, which owns the Marriott City Center hotel near the arena.

Shaner said the initial idea for the team name was the "Punishers," but he said his wife didn't think that was too family friendly and decided to make her own list.

"My 7-year-old daughter looked at the list and she didn't really see what she wanted, but she said, 'Dad, how about Pittsburgh Powerhouse? Powerhouse sounds good.' I thought about it for a moment while we were on vacation. I said, 'Powerhouse? That sounds a little long, honey. How about the Pittsburgh Power?'" said Shaner.
