Maybach Six Figure Rebate, Automakers frequently use cash rebates and other financial incentives to help tweak sales of slower-selling models, but rarely do they amount to more than a few thousand dollars slapped onto the hood of even the costliest cars. But hold onto your steering wheels because we’ve unearthed the all-time whopper of new-car discounts.
According to the Incentives and Rebates section of Edmunds.com, Maybach dealers are being granted an astronomical $100,000 cash to help sweeten the deals on their ultra-luxurious Type 57 and Type 62 sedans. That’s not a typo – that’s a potential six figures that can be slashed off the cars’ sticker prices.
Granted, these are among the most expensive rides on the road, but even the wealthy enjoy getting a bargain, right? The V12-powered Type 57 is priced at between $376,300 and $416,200, with the Type 62 (intended for the chauffeured set) busting even the biggest budgets at between $427,700 and $467,600, not counting options or customization. A $100,000 discount here amounts to between 21 percent and 27 percent off list price. Put it this way, with a 27 percent price reduction an $11,000 Nissan Versa costs just around $8,000.
Why the apparent fire sale? The farther-upscale division of Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler, will be kaput at the end of the 2012 model year. To say that interest in the brand has been underwhelming would be a gross understatement. According to a Forbes report, “Daimler has not turned a penny profit on Maybach since 2002 when it was introduced.” The brand honors Wilhelm Maybach, who worked with Gottlieb Daimler in the late 19th century to build the first cars with internal combustion engines. In a nod to the world of yachting, the sedans’ numeric nomenclature refers to each model’s length in meters.
With the Maybach brand going the way of Duesenberg and DeLorean, Mercedes dealers will debut an even posher version of its top-of-the-line S-Class sedan this fall to help fill the gap in the corporate model line and perhaps more efficiently compete with Bentley and Rolls-Royce for the hearts and wallets of the rich and famous.
There is a catch to this six-figure sales incentive, however. As with all direct-to-dealer discounts (also called “secret rebates” because they’re rarely publicized), Maybach dealers aren’t required to pass along the entire $100,000 – or any of it for that matter if a rich and gullible enough buyer walks onto the showroom floor. Still, with only 23 models sold among 42 “Maybach Studios” in the U.S. during the first quarter of the year (versus 85 Rolls Royces and 450 Bentleys, according to Autodata Corp.), we imagine dealers would be all too willing to cut the deepest deals imaginable to make whatever sales they can before the brand goes out of business altogether. daimler drop maybach, maybach 400000,
