Actress Jennifer Lawrence — who shot to fame with her career-making role as Katniss in “The Hunger Games” — is reportedly negotiating a whopping pay raise for the blockbuster’s sequel.
Lawrence is poised to rake in about $10 million for her return in “Catching Fire,” sources told the Hollywood Reporter.
The hefty payday could be even higher, depending on how well the film does at the box office.
“Catching Fire” is the second part of the “Hunger Games” trilogy written by Suzanne Collins.
Lawrence, 21, was paid just $500,000 up front, plus box-office bonuses, for her lead role in the first film, which grossed $683.8 million worldwide.
Lionsgate had already signed the Oscar-nominated actress onto do four films based on the hit trilogy, but producers pushed to re-negotiate Lawrence’s contract after realizing she was crucial for the franchise’s success, the website reports.
While fellow “Hunger Games” stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth won’t receive paydays on par with Lawrence, both have also reportedly re-negotiated their contracts for more cash.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, significant renegotiations are common on major film franchises – the cast of “Twilight,” for example,” also renegotiated after the first film’s success.
Most of the original “Hunger Games” cast have signed on for the sequel, but director Francis Lawrence will replace Gary Ross.
Production for “Catching Fire” is set to begin in September in Georgia. The film’s scheduled release date is Nov. 22, 2013.
