New iPhone record

New iPhone record - AT&T this morning said it set a new sales record with the iPhone 5 over the weekend.

The iPhone 5 is the fastest-selling iPhone that AT&T has ever offered, the Dallas-based carrier said in a statement. Customers ordered more of them than any other previous iPhone model on the first day of preorders and over the weekend, the company said, though it didn't specify the number of units sold.

AT&T said the iPhone 5 is still available for pre-orders online and will be hitting store shelves starting on Sept. 21 at 8 a.m. ET. The phone will also go on sale Friday morning at Apple retail stores, at the outlets of carriers Sprint and Verizon Wireless, and at select Best Buy, RadioShack, Target, and Walmart locations.

Apple on Monday also released initial iPhone 5 sales numbers, announcing that pre-orders of the coveted phone topped two million in just 24 hours. That's more than double the previous record set by the iPhone 4S, which garnered one million pre-orders on its first day.

The iPhone 5 features a 4-inch 1,136-by-640 Retina display, 4G LTE connectivity, an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a revamped A6 processor. The phone, which comes in black and white, is made entirely of glass and aluminum, and is 20 percent lighter and 18 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S.

The iPhone 5's battery life will top that of the iPhone 4S with eight hours of talk time, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback, eight hours of LTE browsing, and 225 hours of standby.
