Browns hire Jim Brown

Browns hire Jim Brown, Since new owner Jimmy Haslam took over the Cleveland Browns, he has made it clear that NFL legend Jim Brown would have a role in the organization. On Wednesday, that move will be finalized and announced.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi reported Tuesday morning that Brown, 77, will be introduced in a new role with the organization. Brown had a rocky relationship with former owner Randy Lerner, especially after former team president Mike Holmgren took over. It doesn't sound like Brown's new job will be a full-time role.

Not only is Brown the greatest player in Browns history, he's arguably the greatest player in NFL history. He also was an outspoken social leader and cultural icon in a way that's almost hard to imagine with today's superstar athletes. (Not to mention the subject of a fascinating, underrated book.)

Brown and the Browns just go together. It's good to see him back in the fold, just in time for next year's 50-year reunion celebration of the team's last championship.

UPDATE: The Browns will hold a news conference at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. ET to introduce Brown in his new role.
