After more than two months of training and preparation for their trilogy bout, Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao and Mexican counter puncher Juan Manuel Marquez will face each other tonight in what appears to be this year's biggest boxing event.
In a few hours, Filipino boxing star Manny Pacquiao will try to score a knockdown against long-time foe Juan Manuel Marquez to settle the lingering issue of who really is the better fighter of the two famous brawlers.
Pacquiao (53-3, 38 KO) and Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO) will slug it out for the third time in a few hours at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The two protagonists have fought twice in a span of eight years with their first fight ending in a draw. But everyone knew the fight which happened in 2004 was won by Pacquiao on points after one of the referees erred in scoring, which he later admitted.
In 2008, Pacquiao and Marquez fought in a rematch with Pacquiao winning via a unanimous decision over the Mexican boxing idol.
If Pacquiao wins, it could pave the way for a bigger fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather, who earlier announced he was returning to the ring on February 5. Many fans are expecting Mayweather to show up in Las Vegas tonight.
Pacquiao is the heavy favorite to win the fight. Boxing fans want him to make a statement by winning via knock out to silence Marquez who claimed he won the last two fights against Pacquiao but said he was robbed and cheated of his victories by the judges.
Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO) looks forward to his first official victory against Pacquiao. The Mexican slugger is a three-division world champion and has a record of eight world titles in three different classes. Marquez, who stands 5'7" is 38-years old and an orthodox.
Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO), is the only boxer in the world who won titles in eight different divisions, a feat that is yet to be duplicated in boxing history. Pacquiao, who stands 5'6.5 " is 32 years old and a southpaw.
The main under card features unbeaten American welterweight Timothy Bradley vs. Cuban slugger Joel Casamayor.
The event is available on HBO pay-per-view at 9:00 ET.
