Much to dismay of the people of Turkey, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has suggested they rename their town Tofurky, after the vegan, fowl-shaped tofu product.
PETA sent the mayor of Turkey a letter, vowing to treat theentire town to a vegan meal if it honored the suffering of turkeys doomed to the Thanksgiving table chop
"Thanksgiving is murder on turkeys," said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "By changing its name to 'Tofurky,' Turkey would send a clear message that delicious, savory mock meat is an easy way to celebrate without causing suffering-and give a bird something to be thankful for."
The people of Turkey were unimpressed by the publicity-hungry animal rights group’s suggestion.

The Texas panhandle town, which boasts the honor of being the home of Western Swing legend Bob Wills will likely keep its meaty moniker.
"We are insulted," resident Carol Redd. "We like Turkey. We are proud to be Turkey."
