Toronto Ryerson University Sets Unofficial Guinness Record - Ryerson University students apparently set a world record for the largest cowbell ensemble on Wednesday afternoon, though it won’t be official for a few weeks.
The school had issued a press release earlier in the day, saying that the goal was to have 950 students meet in the campus quad at 1:30 p.m. ET Wednesday in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record a bit later in the afternoon.
On the @RyersonNews Twitter feed, the school later reported that 1,003 cowbell players took part in the Wednesday afternoon event.
The previous cowbell ensemble record was set by 640 people in Switzerland three years ago.
The record will not become official until all paperwork is handled by Guinness World Records, which school officials say can take up to three weeks.
In previous years, Ryerson unofficially beat the world record for largest maracas ensemble and largest plastic sword fight.
