Christopher Abbott Quits Girls Over Clash With Lena Dunham

Christopher Abbott Quits Girls Over Clash With Lena Dunham, Audiences last saw his character deciding to settle down with on/off girlfriend Marnie on HBO's Girls.

But Christopher Abbott has had enough of his star-making role as long-suffering Charlie Dattolo and he has abruptly exited the hit series after 'being at odds' with creator Lena Dunham.

According to the New York Post, the 27-year-old actor butted heads with the two-time Golden Globe winner right as production began on the third season.

'They’ve just started work on Season 3, and Chris is at odds with Lena,' a source told Page Six.

'He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map.'

And the dark-haired hunk's rep confirmed his departure: '[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire Girls cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.'

Many fans and critics were divided on the uber-romantic finale, titled Together, which had the turbulent couple rekindling their love in a less-than-realistic fashion.

'I want to make you a snack every night. And I eventually want to have your little brown babies and eventually I want to watch you die,' Allison Williams' Marnie told Charlie in the episode.

The last-second reconciliation came after Charlie got rich creating an iPhone app which charges people to contact their exes - an invention literally inspired by Marnie.

Christopher was reportedly confident that Girls would continue to do well, but he was less than sure when it came to his wimpy character.

'He wasn't behind where it was going to end up,' an insider told Us Weekly.

'Chris was reluctant to do the show from the get go. He's a really great actor, the source material from the beginning was great and he was grateful to Lena.
