MC Hammer Lite Light $1,231,596 - Owned by rap star M. C. Hammer's Oaktown Stable and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Lite Light took a four-race win streak into the Mother Goose, including victories in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1). The matchup with Meadow Star was eagerly anticipated.

Lite Light jumped right out early with front-runner Meadow Star after the first furlong, the light-boned bay taking on the sturdy chestnut champion at her own game, and stayed within a head of Meadow Star for the final mile of the 11/8-mile test. The two fillies hit the wire together and Meadow Star came out in front by a nose, prompting winning trainer LeRoy Jolley to call it "the Mother of all Gooses." Others considered it one of the best races of the last half-century.
Lite Light turned the tables to win the 11/4-mile Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) by seven lengths, but the rivalry was short-lived and neither filly won again after the Coaching Club. Transferred to trainer D. Wayne Lukas, Lite Light raced until she was five and finished her career with eight wins in 26 starts and earnings of $1,231,596.
