San Diego Celebrates Record Store Day Saturday, April 16, 2011

Saturday April 16, 2011 marks the fifth annual Record Store Day. Conceived in 2007, Record Store Day was designed to celebrate independently owned record stores across the nation with special in-store performances, limited edition vinyl releases and various promotional products designed exclusively for release on April 16.

In keeping in tune with limited release Record Store Day theme, local indo rockers Pinback will be releasing a special vinyl 7” limited to only 2,000 copies. The few remaining independent record stores in San Diego celebrating tomorrow are Taang! Records, Disconnected Records, Record City, M-Theory and Spin Records. Spin Records in Carlsbad will feature live DJ sets from Lexicon Devil and Dani Hill and will feature live in-store performances from Trouble In The Wind, The Smart Brothers, Tractormen and Ben L. Ambrosini.

M-Theory Music may have the best Record Store Day event in San Diego, with a barbecue, a variety of exclusive releases and a sidewalk sale with CD”s and vinyl available for $1; featuring live performances from local favorites Heavy Hawaii, The Plateaus and Dunes. M-Theory Music will open it’s doors tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the live music starting at 4 p.m.

If you are one of the unlucky in San Diego that weren’t able to obtain tickets to this year’s corporate Coachella festival, then what better way to come out and celebrate music then by supporting your local independent record store this weekend.
