British Soap Awards the award for the most disastrous frock goes to Jennifer Metcalfe
And the award for the most disastrous frock goes to... Jennifer Metcalfe leads red carpet horrors at the British Soap AwardsIt was the biggest night of the year for British soap operas and a chance for the stars to show off their fashion prowess and dazzle on the red carpet.
But while some managed to get it just right with their choice of frock, others just got it oh so very wrong.
Ahead of the disasters game was Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe, who was in danger of revealing more than she probably wanted.
Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes McQueen in the soap, was showing some serious side boob in an odd backless strappy black pantsuit number that gaped at her skinny ribs.
However, she got in spot on in her towering black heels and her hair looked pretty pinned up from her face as she posed on the red carpet with co-star Glen Wallace.
Hers wasn't the only red carpet disaster though, as Coronation Street stars Shobna Gulati and Alison King also arrived in strange outfit choices.
Alison, who plays the very glamorous Carla Connor, arrived in a chiffon grey kaftan with black embroidery, which completely swamped her curvy figure and did nothing for her.
In fact, it looked like something that she'd have been better off wearing at the beach to cover her swimsuit.
Her co-star Shobna Gulati did no better in her black fussy gown with a yellow bodice that made her look like a huge bird.
Other Corrie stars also should have put more thought into their outfits, especially Brooke Vincent and Sacha Parkinson, who ply on-screen lesbian lover Sophie Webster and Sian Powers.
Although both could be praised for snubbing a designer gown in favour of the high street, both looked rather tacky and garish as they arrived together.
Brooke, 18, was in an £80 bright lime green Lipsy dress that she'd helped design the beadwork for herself and which she teamed with a Gwen Stefani-style bindi and silver heels.
Sacha, 19, had also plumped for on-trend neon brights but the floorlength fuschia number looked shapeless and cheap.
And while she might have been named Sexiest Female for the second year running, Corrie's Michelle Keegan looked less than hot in her garish gold floor-length gown,
But it wasn't just the girls from the cobbles getting it wrong, as Doctors star Elisabeth Dermot Walsh arrived in a shapless strapless blue dress that hung badly round her bosom and Hollyoaks's Jessica Forrest opted for a white dress that would have looked cute if she'd left the ankle socks behind.
And Emmerdale star Sophie Powles looked as though she should have been out clubbing instead when she arrived in a raunchy black and white outfit complete with suspender tights.
And it wasn't just soap stars, as the girl group Sugababes arrived at the bash in gothic-style dresses.
Not everyone got it wrong though, including Hollyoaks Stephanie Davis who looked great in a stunning white gown, and Corrie's Katherine Kelly who showed off her slender frame in a navy blue and yellow gown.
The awards were held at the Granada Studios in Manchester, and there were two big winners - with EastEnders winning Best Soap for the fourth time in a row, but with Corrie sweeping the board and landing eight out of 15 categories.
The event, which was held in the northern city for the first time in its 12 year history, celebrated the trials, tribulations and tantrums from the nation's biggest TV shows over the last 12 months.
Some 30 actors from EastEnders assembled on stage as they accepted the Best Soap accolade, with Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, saying the win was like a football match, musing: 'I feel like we're away from home, but it's nice to get a result away from home. I think we've done well and I think they've done well and we enjoy the battle.'
Hollyoaks star Rachel Shenton meanwhile was poured into a chocolate silk floor-length evening gown, which she wore with a Cheryl Cole-style quiff.
EastEnders' Jessie Wallace - Kat Moon's alter ego arrived looking stunning in a Grecian-style white gown on the arm of co-star Shane Richie, aka her onscreen husband Alfie Moon.
They walked off with the Best On-Screen Partnership Awards and Jessie landed a double with the Best Actress Award.
Sexiest Male meanwhile was her EastEnders' co-star Scott Maslen for the second year running.
Fellow EastEnders star Jo Joyner turned up on the red carpet meanwhile in a tight black dress with her stage daughter Abi Branning, in real life 15-year-old Lorna Fitzgerald, wearing a very grown up purple evening gown.
You can see the ceremony for yourself meanwhile on ITV1 on Wednesday at 8pm.
