Jaws Ride Opening 1990, Universal Orlando Attendance
Jaws, Universal Studios Attraction, To Close Permanently In January
After scaring millions of visitors and children for 21 years, Universal Orlando is closing its much-beloved JAWS ride come January 2, the Baltimore Sun reports.The ride, based on the 1975 Academy Award-winning film "Jaws", will close "to make room for a new attraction", Universal Orlando announced on Friday. It was one of the original attractions at the park, which opened in 1990.
"Jaws has been an amazing attraction and an important part of our history. We know that Jaws holds a special place in the hearts of our guests," spokesman Tom Schroder told The Sun. "But we always have to look to the future and dedicate ourselves to providing new, innovative entertainment experiences for our guests.
On their Facebook page, Universal wrote an ode to the popular (and terrifying) attraction, saying:
We know you love JAWS! and we do too. It has been an amazing attraction and after terrorizing the waters of Amity here at Universal Orlando for 20 years, it's a VERY important part of our history. So, we've got a couple things planned to ensure we always remember and honor it. We know it's hard to say goodbye, but we can't express how EXCITED we are about the new, innovative & amazing experience we’re going to be bringing you.
JAWS and the surrounding Amity area will close at 9 p.m. on January 2, Tampa Bay Online reports.
