Rodman to coach women’s topless basketball team
Dennis Rodman has been relatively quiet the last few years, but that is about to change. The former NBA rebounding great, who starred for the Pistons and Bulls, will coach a "topless" women's basketball team according to a report in the New York Post.
Rodman, 50, inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2011, was known for antics such as dressing up in women's attire and being a distraction to other teams and players, but there was no denying his basketball smarts and rebounding prowess.
The NBA leader in rebounding for seven straight seasons, Rodman reportedly created the team which is being backed by an adult club on Long Island.
Rodman's team could compete in a charity game against a squad coached by ex-NBA star Spud Webb. Webb, 48, won the 1986 Dunk Contest, throwing it down despite his five-foot-six frame.
He was a decent guard with the Atlanta Hawks, among other teams, averaging 9.9 points and 5.7 assists in his career.
If Webb, who runs the Texas Legends of the NBA developmental league, was a woman he wouldn't make Rodman's team, however, as there is a 5'10 height requirement.
Rodman told the Post's Page Six he believes the team will be a success.
"I don't know too many men that don't like a good-looking woman running up and down around the court," Rodman told Page Six. "[The potential women players] don't have to have too much experience, just know how to throw the ball into the hole."
Ironically, scoring was a weak point in Rodman's game as he often deferred to others in averaging double-figures just once in his career, 11.6 points per game with the 1987-88 Pistons.
Rodman's endeavor is small in scope, though the cabaret sponsoring Webb's team was briefly part of a league that had teams across the country during the NBA strike.
When the players and owners came to an agreement to salvage the season, the topless league bottomed out.
