Simon Cowell Makes Big 'X Factor' Changes, Simon Cowell vows to make big changes on X Factor USA. SIMON Cowell plans to axe star names from The X Factor USA after declaring “there will be blood” following disappointing ratings.
He vowed to get 20 million viewers when it launched in the summer but managed around half that. The final was watched by 12.6 million compared with rival American Idol’s 22.8 million.
Cowell, 52, is looking at changes likely to lead to the exit of host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger.
He said: “Next year will be a bloodbath. We have to come out with something better than the rest. Can we make the show better? Yes. I will never go into anything unless I believe I can make it better.”
Cowell is planning a January summit with TV executives to shake up the series. It’s thought he will also discuss changes to the UK version, which could lead to judges being axed.
Insiders say it is unlikely Kelly Rowland will return.
