49ers New Kicker: Dawson tweets that he’s 49ers new kicker, Kicker Phil Dawson tweeted Tuesday that he has signed with the 49ers after spending the past 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

“I am humbled & thrilled to have the opportunity to continue my career with my new team, the SF 49ers!” Dawson posted after two farewell tweets to Cleveland.

A 49ers spokesman declined to confirm Dawson’s signing, as is the case until contracts are formally approved by the league. Neil Cornrich,Dawson’s agent, did not immediately return a call or email seeking confirmation.

Dawsonis coming off the first Pro Bowl appearance of his career. He converted 93.5 percent of his field-goal attempts (29 of 31), which finished as the second-best mark in the league.

Dawsonreplaces David Akers, whose two-year tenure with the 49ers ended March 6. Akers, after a record-setting 2011 season, made only 69 percent (29 of 42) last season but kept his job throughout the 49ers’ Super Bowl run.

Dawsonwill be reunited on the with Brad Seely, the 49ers’ special teams coordinator and assistant head coach who served a similar role with the Browns from 2009-2010.

Dawson originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent by the Raiders out of the University of Texasin 1998 but got waived, as was the case with a follow-up stint with the New England Patriots before he latched on with the Browns in 1999.
