Teacher dies at Cubs game, A 28-year-old Chicago-area woman died Tuesday after she reportedly choked on a hot dog before a Cubs game at Wrigley Field on Sunday.
Maureen Oleskiewicz, of Orland Park, Ill., who was a language arts teacher at Independence Junior High in Palos Heights, was with her brother in the stands at Wrigley Field when she choked on her lunch and collapsed around 12:55 p.m., according to CBS Chicago.
Oleskiewicz was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she died Tuesday morning. According to ABC Chicago, she went into cardiac arrest and attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. She had been kept alive until Tuesday as she had wanted to donate her organs.
According to Patch, a memorial vigil was held for Oleskiewicz Tuesday evening at Incarnation Catholic Church in Palos Heights. She was completing her fifth year as a teacher at Independence and was a graduate from Bradley University in Peoria.
"There is no magic wand to fix what we cannot comprehend," district Superintendent Kathleen Casey said in a press release, according to Patch. "Maureen had a positive impact on countless students, parents and her colleagues. Her vibrant, positive outlook on life and her joyful nature will be missed more than words can convey."
The Cubs released a statement that they are "saddened to hear news of the untimely death of Maureen Oleskiewicz. We express our deepest sympathy to her family and friends. We will continue to keep her family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
